3. WORKSHOP ON BAYESIAN DEEP LEARNING FOR COSMOLOGY AND TIME DOMAIN ASTROPHYSICS 2022 (Paris, 20 au 24 juin 2022)

We are glad to announce that the second edition of a workshop on Bayesian Deep Learning for Cosmology and Time Domain Astrophysics 2022 is open for registration <https://indico.in2p3.fr/event/26887/>. It will be held in Paris, France the week of June 20th to 24thand a call for contributions is open until May 18th CET.

The goal of this workshop, sponsored by the LSSTC Enabling Science effort – with contributions from DESC, ISSC and TVS collaborations – is to bring together physicists and machine learning specialists to exchange recent results at the crossroads between cosmology, time-domain astrophysics and probabilistic machine learning frameworks to leverage uncertainties. During registration, young scientists are invited to apply for grants covering lodging and part of the conference fees. The first day of the workshop will be structured as a school to introduce the Bayesian framework and probabilistic machine learning concepts. The rest of the workshop will alternate between keynote talks, topical presentations, interactive tutorials and poster sessions.

We welcome in particular contributions that target, or report on, the following non-exhaustive list of topics
• Applications of Bayesian Deep Learning in Cosmology and Time Domain Astrophysics
• Methodology for Model Uncertainty Quantification
• Anomaly and outlier detection
• Probabilistic ML frameworks and methodology
• Use of Bayesian deep learning outside of academia
• Ethical considerations of large-scale machine learning

Contributions do not necessarily need to be astrophysics-focused. Work on relevant ML methodology, or similar considerations in other scientific fields are welcome.

4. ATELIER "OBJETS COMPACTS ET NOUVELLE PHYSIQUE" (Paris, 28 et 29 juin 2022)

Nous avons le plaisir de vous annoncer qu'un mini-atelier intitulé "Objets compacts et nouvelle physique" se tiendra à l'Observatoire de Paris les 28 et 29 juin 2022. Cet atelier vise à réunir différents experts travaillant sur la physique des objets compacts et leurs observations d'une part, et sur des scénarios de nouvelle physique d'autre part (matière noire, particules exotiques, gravité modifiée), pour discuter de la possibilité d'utiliser les objets compacts comme sondes de cette nouvelle physique. Cet atelier se déroulera dans la Salle du Conseil de l'Observatoire de Paris, qui peut accueillir jusqu'à 20 personnes (nous étudierons la possibilité de participation en visioconférence selon les demandes d'inscription reçues). 5. FIRST MANITOU (MARSEILLE-NICE-TOULOUSE) SUMMER SCHOOL ON GRAVITATIONAL WAVES (Marseille, 4 au 8 juillet 2022)

Dear all,

the organizing committee of the First MaNiTou (Marseille-Nice-Toulouse) Summer School on Gravitational Waves is pleased to announce that the pre-registration is now open. The School is co-organized between Marseille, Nice and Toulouse, and this year will be held in Marseille on the Luminy Campus, on July 4th-8th, 2022.

The school is open in priority to Master and PhD students, and also to young or not so young scientists who would like to get better acquainted with Gravitational Waves. In order to make the school efficient for the attendees in terms of knowledge transfer and training interaction with the scientists in charge of the different activities of the school, the attendance is limited to 40.

The registration will happen in 2 steps; we would like to finish the pre-registration (first step) by the end of March.
So please, do not wait to advertise the school to your students and colleagues and have them apply now, if they are interested.
Note that PhD and Master students need to provide a motivation letter at the pre-registration step.

Nous sommes très heureux de vous annoncer que la deuxième édition de l'atelier "Théorie, Univers et Gravitation" (TUG) se tiendra à Montpellier du 5 au 7 octobre 2022.

Comme lors de sa première édition en 2021, l'objectif de cet atelier est de réunir les chercheuses et chercheurs de nos laboratoires (et proches collègues) impliqués en TUG pour faire un bilan des activités théoriques et phénoménologiques à l'échelle nationale sur ces domaines scientifiques croisant plusieurs disciplines. Cet atelier se veut une occasion annuelle de prendre connaissance des développements récents et de mettre en contact différentes communautés de physique théorique. Nous privilégierons à nouveau la participation de nos jeunes collègues en thèse ou postdoctorat (une partie de notre budget sera consacrée au co-financement des frais de voyage et séjour).

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the second edition of the "Theory, Universe, and Gravitation" (TUG) workshop, which will be held in Montpellier on October 5-7, 2022.

Just as its first edition, the goal of this workshop is to have researchers working in French institutes (and close colleagues) and involved in TUG, round to review the current status of theoretical activities on the national level in these topics developed at the frontiers of different fields. This workshop is meant to be a yearly occasion to present and collect the recent developments in these topics from different perspectives, and to bring together communities from theoretical physics that barely meet otherwise. Again, we encourage the participation of young researchers, PhD students or postdocs, and will allocate a fraction of our funding to help them attend.

1. TWO PHD OPENINGS AT TTK, RWTH AACHEN UNIVERSITY

The Institute for Theoretical Particle Physics and Cosmology (TTK) at the RWTH Aachen University invites applications for two three-year PhD position in theoretical astroparticle physics (at 75% of the salary level E13 TVL).

The selected candidates will join the group of Prof. Philipp Mertsch to work on one of the following projects: the modelling of diffuse Galactic emission, with a view to interpreting existing and upcoming observations (e.g. LHAASO, SWGO and IceCube); or the development of statistical techniques from information field theory (IFT) for reconstruction of cosmic ray and gas densities in the Galaxy. The work will be undertaken in collaboration with researchers in Garching, Innsbruck, L'Aquila and Valencia and there will be opportunity for regular research visits. In addition, the students will be able to profit from the diverse and intellectually stimulating environment in physic at RWTH Aachen University, with active research efforts in theoretical particle physics and cosmology as well as experimental astroparticle physics (AMS-02, IceCube and Auger). The expected starting date is in autumn 2022, but other dates can be considered.

2. POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION IN SVOM: MULTI-WAVELENGTH STUDY OF GAMMA-RAY BURSTS AND OBSERVATION OF GRAVITATIONAL WAVE SOURCES

The French CNRS is opening a 2-year post-doctoral research position at LUPM (Montpellier, France), devoted to the exploitation of the SVOM observatory with a focus on Gamma-Ray Bursts. 1. ANNOUNCEMENT OF OPPORTUNITY FOR XRISM GUEST SCIENTISTS

ESA solicits the participation of the scientific community of ESA Member States in the role of Guest Scientists for the XRISM mission. Through the appointment of the XRISM Guest Scientists (XGS), ESA aims at involving a scientific community as wide and diverse as possible in the exploitation of the data of the Performance Verification Phase of the XRISM mission.

XGSs are expected to enhance the scientific return of the XRISM Performance Verification observations by bringing unique expertise that includes, but is not limited to: complementary data on the target from other X-ray observatories or other wavebands, substantial theoretical insight, or specialized data analysis techniques.
